Porsche may have been crowned 2015 WEC LMP1 manufacturers winners, but the race for the drivers Championship is going down to the wire in the desert. At The Bahrain International Circuit, with a twelve point difference between the No. 17 Porsche of Bernhard, Hartley and Webber and the 7 Audi of Lotterer, Treluyer and Fassler, it's all to play for. With 1 DNF for the drivers of car 17 at the opening round at Silverstone, an otherwise 100% top three finish rate for both c

Return of the rotary engine to Le Mans, in garage 56
During the 85th edition of the 24h of Le Mans in 2017 the rotary engine will return to this legendary track, more than 25 years after it has been banned from endurance racing. The Hybrid IM01 racecar will use a rotary engine as range-extender in order to complete the 24 hours. Because the rotary engine will be used as a generator, it can be tuned in such a way that it always runs in its optimal operation point. This results in a tremendous reduction in fuel consumpti

F1 and GP2 Sochi incidents
So Sochi... anyone else get that feeling that something else is going to happen? I said that just before the GP2 race started.... I have been looking at the Sainz crash and the way that the Tecpro barrier reacted and how the car was able the travel under the blocks. After some digging around the blocks do not need to be fixed down nor fixed at the end of the runs, but are all interconnected. I would assume the reason they are not fixed at either end it to allow the "chai

Concept, Fantasy, Reality
Is this the real life? is this just Fantasy? Its hard to tell these days.... the growth of CGI has started to take hold in the world of fantasty prototype racers - but is this a bad thing, I would suggest not, as these enthuse the fans as to what could be done and shows the manfactures what should be done such, as this creation for a Corvette prototype keeping with the front engine idea. And how about a returning marque to the LMP1 class, Mercedes, very similar looks

The 6 Hours of Nurburgring - it's nearly here!!
11 long weeks have passd since the last race of the FIA WEC championship at Le Mans and what a break it has been, I must take this opportunity to mention the sad passing of Jules and Justin - they will be missed. 32 cars are due to take the start in Germany for this one off special race weekend celebrating the 15th anniversary of the 1000kms endurance race. This format used to be used prior to the series being run by the FIA when a timed endurance race was introduced for v

Uli's Racing Legends; A Motor Sports Artist
Uli’s Racing Legends watercolour pictures can be found hanging on many a wall of a motor racing fan across the globe, and on the eve of this year's 24hr race, a Le Mans Uli takes time out to speak with me about his passion for racing art. Uli began painting cars at the age of five, much to the surprise of his mother! “Cars have always been a passion," said Uli. "their look, the noise, and the feeling as they pass you at 200 mph, to me they are art sculptures.” At age 12,

Le Mans 2015 Test Day Re-cap
Test day took place with the race just over two weeks out, and it proved that the day-long race will be nothing short of exciting . The No. 17 Porsche topped field with a staggering 3:21.061 byBrendon Hartley - almost a second quicker than last year's pole lap from the Toyota. The top six spots on the timing sheets were occupied by Audi and Porsche-powered cars; it seems that they have their “low drag” setups sorted – this may be due to their new rear wing configuration,

This year, test day will see the first public outing

The class allows for both open and closed-cockpit cars, but both types must have the "dorsal fin" to prevent mid-air rolling, and the rather random regulation still stands that there must be enough space for two people. This is a cost-capped class where the cost of the car, minus the engine, must
