Highlights from the morning session of the Le Mans Test Day
Porsche heads the field with a 1-2 in LMP1, the fastest lap being a 3:22.334 set by Marc Lieb in the No.2 Porsche 919 Hybrid. The German heads the No.1 by just over two tenths of a second, Mark Webber having set a best lap of 3:22.555 in the No.1 entry.The two Audi R18s have also dipped under the 3m22 mark this morning, close behind the Porsches, with Toyota Gazoo Racing’s TS050 HYBRIDS slightly further back but working through a comprehensive test programme. Sad news from the Isle of Man TT
STATEMENT ISSUED ON BEHALF OF ACU EVENTS LTD ACU Events Ltd regrets to announce that Paul Shoesmith, 50, from Poynton, Cheshire was killed following an accident on Sulby Straight during this evening’s solo practice at the Isle of Man TT Races. The session was abandoned. Paul made his TT Races debut in 2005 and had a highest placed finish of 15th on the TT Mountain Course in both the Superbike and Senior Races in 2011. Roberti out of Le Mans, and an LMP2 driver shuffle
Paolo Roberti has ruled himself out of this years Le Mans following a crash today at Hockenheim while teaching a student. The car he was driving suffered a technical problem with its brakes on the backstretch at 200kph. Both Paolo and the student he was teaching are in hospital close the the circuit, Paolo suffering a fracture of his lumber vertebrae. Hutchinson quickly on the pace in Superbike class at second qualifying session
Monday night’s evening session at the 2016 Isle of Man TT Races fuelled by Monster Energy got underway promptly at 6.20pm with dry, sunny conditions all round the Mountain Course and the Bingley Bullet Ian Hutchinson continued his excellent form by setting the fastest time of the night with a speed of 129.964mph on the Tyco BMW, two seconds quicker than Michael Dunlop although the latter posted three laps over129mph. Audi to appeal exclusion from WEC 6h Silverstone results
In the very late evening it was announced that the stewards of the meeting received a report from the Technical Delegate explaining that the thickness of the front skid block of car no. 7 doesn’t comply with article 3.5.6 a3 of the LMP1 Technical Regulations.
