Le Mans Free Practice Report

The session started out on a green track as there had been no running since test day. Early running saw the teams going through their driver line ups.

Early running was brought to a halt when the ByKolles number 4 with Pierre Kaffer on board came to a halt on the Mulsane straight in a large plume of smoke, a mechanical failure being sighted by the driver as the problem.

The rain started to fall and teams were running full wets, as the track started to dry inters and then slicks were the order of the day. As the final hour approached the times were starting to tumble like a fruit machine. Brendon Hartley in the Porsche 919 Hybrid setting the fastest overall lap of 3:22.550 before the RGR Sport car found the barriers at Indianapolis with Bruno Senna on board brought out the second red flag with 33 minutes to go.

Another car that found the barriers at Indianapolis was the number 66 Ford Performance with Billy Johnson on board, he managed to get going again under a local yellow. The session was ended when the number 28 Pegasus racing hit the wall with Innes Tattinger on board. We then saw the number 6 Toyota TS050 return to the garage with serious front end damage to drivers right following a spin between Indianapolis and Arnage.
