Aston Martin Racing Qualifying Report, Silverstone 6hr

In Their first qualifying session of the season, Aston Martin’s three beauties qualified P5 and P6 in GTE Pro and P6 in GTE Am.

On an extremely wet track (it had been snowing for over an hour!), the #97 of Fernando Rees and Richie Stanaway set a combined average lap time of 2m 21.626 to place them P5 in class.

Richie comments ‘We are still in a learning period with our new tyres and the unique ambient and track temperatures made this session extremely difficult. We ran the majority of the season n the full wet and were only able to use the intermediate tyre towards the end of the session with Fernando. We’re looking forward to a dry race tomorrow where we should be back on the pace.’

Marco Sørensen and Nicki Thiim put the #95 GTE Pro in P6. Nicki said ‘It’s a world championship with a lot of top competition. We’re missing a bit of performance today but we know exactly where we are. We’re on a steep learning curve right now but we’re sure that tomorrow will be better.’

The #98 Aston Martin in GTE Am was placed P6 by Paul Dalla Lana and Pedro Lamy.

Aston Martin Racing Team Principal Paul Howard commented ‘The unique and unseasonable conditions have certainly contributed to today’s performance. We’re confident that tomorrow’s race will be a very different story. We know what we need to do to improve.’
