BTCC heads to Thruxton

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship heads to the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire this weekend for rounds 7,8 and 9 of the season.

So far we’ve seen a whole host of new faces grace the podium positions with somewhat of a changing of the guard in the Championship as the younger drivers are seizing the opportunity to take control of the championship fight this year. The average age of the top eight drivers in the standings is just 25 years old, with the series leader, Tom Ingram, just 24 years old.

The opening weekend at Brands Hatch would always be a hard act to follow, but Donington Park did a great job of throwing up some more high octane action. Three different drivers took to the top step in the East Midlands and we will be hoping for the same kind of unpredictability as we look ahead to Thruxton this weekend.

Tom Ingram is currently the only driver to notch two wins this season, which will definitely be a confidence boost for him and the team going into another crucial weekend. Power Maxed TAG Racing also maintained its incredible start to the season, with both Senna Proctor and now Josh Cook, taking wins in the series. Cook in particular will be looking for another strong points haul as Thruxton is his “home turf”.

Its also worth mentioning that the WSR BMW’s will be a team to watch this weekend. After what was a pretty underwhelming performance at Donington, the team will be looking to bounce back at a circuit that has been good to them in the past.

Thruxton itself is celebrating its 50th anniversary and the popular circuit is set to open parts of its brand new hospitality facility, ahead of its 50th anniversary celebrations later this year.

With the weather on our side at the moment, it seems that the bumper crowds at Thruxton will be yet again treated to some top class touring car racing, in what is truly shaping up to be a tremendous season.
