Stephen Jelley To Leave WSR And The BTCC Grid for 2024.
After seven years of fierce competition behind the wheel of various BMWs, Stephan Jelley has hung up his British Touring Car Championship race boots for the 2024 season.
Having begun his car-racing career in 2002, Jelley quickly flew up the junior ladder and landed himself a seat in the BTCC with WSR in 2008. He took his first BTCC pole position at that year’s season finale in the team’s BMW 320si and followed up with a double win at Rockingham the following year.
After a long and successful stint across various GT categories, Jelley returned to the top step of the BTCC podium in 2017 at the wheel of an ex-WSR BMW yet again.
Following on from more scattered success, Jelley found himself back at WSR in 2021, partnering with fellow team veteran Colin Turkington and Tom Oliphant. His final stint would last until the end of 2023 where he would claim a range of podiums, wins and pole positions.
Throughout 2023, Jelley's pace was a way off of teammates Adam Morgan, Colin Turkington and Jake Hill's at times. Regardless of that fact, Jelley managed to play his part for the team with great success and will be missed at WSR and throughout the paddock in 2024.
Heading into 2024, Jelley's competitive future is yet to be publically announced. Within his X post announcing his departure from the BTCC, Jelley said he is "Excited to be exploring other options and will have something exciting to announce soon"
