LMP1 vs. F1
Ever wondered what the differences are between LMP1 and F1? Well we did so we thought we would share our findings with you! Let’s first of all point out that this is an exercise in comparison and not a scientific study, and we will put aside the open / closed wheel layouts… So first a little history; LMP as a class was first seen at the 1992 24h Le Mans when the ACO was trying to increase the field of Group C cars that the World Sportscar Championship had to offer. 60 Entries for Le Mans 24 2016
Yesterday at their press conference in Paris the ACO announced that there will be 60 cars entered to start the 84th running of the world famous 24 hours at Le Sarthe circuit, in France on the weekend of 18th-19th of June 2016. So in the third round of the World Endurnace Championship there will be 9 LMP1, 22 LMP, 14 GTE Pro and 14 GTE Am cars running along with the garage 56 entry of Frédéric Sausset who had all 4 limbs amputated due to an illness. Bentley’s return to the track…

2016 Audi R18 e-tron Quattro - testing at Sebring
The latest turbodiesel LMP1 racer to carry the R18 e-tron quattro name will race in the six megajoule hybrid sub-class next year rather than the 4MJ division in which it competed in 2015. Audi has abandoned the flywheel energy storage or mechanical battery system used since the arrival of the first R18 hybrid in 2012 in favour of a lithium-ion battery, the same technology used by 2015 WEC champion Porsche.
