The first track action of the TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa saw the home town heros, WRT top the timing screens, with the 708 Glickenhaus Racing fastest in the Hypercar class.
The start of the session was interrupted almost immediately by a red flag due to a technical issue in race control, 15 minutes later the clock was reset and the session started over.
Robin Frijns in the No. 31 Team WRT LMP2 posted the fastest lap of the session, a 2:05:475, just 0.063 quicker than the No. 22 United Autosports LMP2 of Filipe Albuquerque with the No. 23 United Autosports LMP2 of Oliver Jarvis in 3rd over all.
Fastest in the Hypercar class, and 5th overall came the Glickenhaus piloted by Romain Dumas with a lap time of 2:06.233, just over a second slower than Frijns.
Porsche topped GTE-Pro one-two, with Kevin Estre posting a fastest lap of 2:14:583 behind the wheel of the No. 92 Porsche 911 RSR-19.
The Frenchman, a class winner in last year’s Spa round, outpaced teammate Gianmaria Bruni by 0.323 seconds.
While in GTE-Am, a late spin for Ben Keating in the No. 33 TF sport brought out the yellows, despite this they remained 2nd fastest in class behind the No. 46 Team Project 1 driven by Matteo Cairoli.
In other news, the drivers of the No. 85 Iron Dames car have been altered due to Sarah Bovy testing positive for Covid 19, and subsequently Michelle Gatting removing herself from the driving line up after before in close proximity to Michelle.
They will be replaced by Doriane Pin and Christina Nielsen - the first female to win a IMSA Series title.
Track action resumes at 09:05 local time on the 6th May with FP2, followed at 14:00 for FP3 and qualifying starts at 18:20.
