British GT – Jaguar is back!

Jaguar is to make its return to the British GT in the hands of a brand new team, Invictus Games Racing. The team have selected a group of wounded, injured and sick veterans from the British Armed Forces to pilot two F-Type SVR GT4’s.

Unveiled today at the Autosport Show, this Jaguar GT4 is a joint effort between the Invictus Games Foundation and James Holder (Superdry co-founder) who managed to get the Jaguar’s Special Vehicle Operations on board to build the two F-Type SVR’s.

Invictus Games Racing will enable ex-servicemen and women who have experienced physical or psychological trauma during service to compete against each other and the rest of the top-level racing field, in cars that are tailor-made for them,” said Holder, who has self-financed the project. “We wanted to give these men and women the chance to compete in a professional racing competition with the established teams.”

The project has remained a secret for the past year and development has been undertaken behind closed doors. The F-Type will keep its 5-litre supercharged V8 engine, but will lose its all-wheel drive to rear-wheel drive and will only race in the UK in the British GT Championship.

Driving one of the Jaguars will be Matthew George (who returns to the championship) alongside Steve McCulley (Royal Marines) and Paul Vice MC (Royal Marines Commando). The other will be driven by American Jason Wolfe – former two-time Pirelli World Challenge TCA champion – alongside Ben Norfolk (Royal Air Force Sergeant) and Basil Rawlinson (2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment). The AM drivers will take in turns to race throughout the 2018 season.

The season starts at Oulton Park over the Easter Weekend (31st March – 2nd April)
