Formula E has revealed its next-generation GEN4 car, marking a major step forward in performance, technology, and sustainability. The new car will debut in the 2026 to 2027 season and represents the biggest leap in the series to date.

A Major Performance Step Forward

The GEN4 car delivers a significant increase in performance compared to the current generation. Power output rises to 600kW in qualifying and attack mode, with 450kW available during races.

This makes it the most powerful car in Formula E history. The jump in performance is expected to improve lap times, increase top speeds, and create more intense on-track battles.

The car also introduces permanent all-wheel drive. Previous generations only used front power in limited situations, but GEN4 applies it throughout the race. This improves traction, stability, and overall performance.

Designed for Closer Racing

Formula E has focused on improving racing quality with GEN4. Increased grip, better aerodynamics, and higher power levels will make the cars faster and more responsive.

The combination of all-wheel drive and improved tyre performance is expected to allow drivers to push harder for longer. This should lead to closer racing and more overtaking opportunities across a race distance.

Advanced Battery and Energy Management

The GEN4 car features a new 55kWh battery, increasing usable energy and allowing more flexible race strategies.

Energy management remains a key part of Formula E, but the increased capacity should reduce extreme energy saving and allow more consistent racing pace.

Regenerative braking has also been improved, continuing to play a central role in how drivers manage energy throughout a race.

Focus on Sustainability

Sustainability remains central to the GEN4 concept. The car is built using recyclable materials, with a significant proportion coming from recycled sources.

Formula E continues to position itself as a platform for innovation, with technology designed to transfer into road cars. The GEN4 car pushes this further with improved efficiency and energy systems.

Set for 2026 Debut

The GEN4 car will make its competitive debut in the 2026 to 2027 Formula E season. Development and testing are already underway, with manufacturers preparing for the transition.

This marks the next phase in Formula E’s growth, as the championship continues to close the gap to other top-level single-seater series in terms of performance.

GEN4 signals a clear shift for Formula E. Faster cars, stronger performance, and a continued focus on sustainability will define the next era of electric racing.
