FIA WEC: 37 car field for Super Sebring season opener 2022

The tenth anniversary of the FIA World Endurance Championship 1000 Miles of Sebring season opener features a healthy grid of 37 cars.

The 2022 WEC curtain-raiser (16-18 March) will feature a number of firsts for the championship, including the introduction of Excellium Racing 100, an entirely new renewable fuel from TotalEnergies. Compared to traditional fossil fuels, this 100% renewable fuel will be produced using bioethanol, allowing for a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of at least 65%.

Sebring will also be the first time that Hypercars will be seen on American soil, with Toyota Gazoo Racing, Glickenhaus Racing and Alpine's A480-Gibson taking part in the WEC's flagship class. There will be one home driver in the Hypercar category: Glickenhaus' Ryan Briscoe, an Australian-American who will race alongside French drivers Olivier Pla and Romain Dumas in the Glickenhaus squad.

Sebastien Ogier was confirmed yesterday by Richard Mille Racing Team to compete with the squad along with Charles Milesi and Lilou Wadoux in 2022. The race will feature a record-breaking 15 LMP2 cars. The reigning LMP2 champions WRT announced their drivers yesterday as well, and as always the quality of names competing in LMP2 is extremely strong, so the 1000 Miles should be entertaining from start to finish.

LMGTE Am will feature 13 teams including 2019 Sebring winners Dempsey-Proton Racing, which will enter two cars. the No. 77 and 88 Porsche 911 RSR entries have close ties to the USA due to its co-owner, Patrick Dempsey. TF Sport will be another popular choice with the home fans as America’s Ben Keating will drive the No. 33 Aston Martin Vantage AMR alongside team-mates Florian Latorre and Marco Sorensen.
