DTM season finale with GT4 vehicles in the support programme


The GT4 Sprint Cup Europe powered by SRO Motorsports is the latest asset to the DTM support programme for the season finale held from 12th to 14th October, 2018.


The cost-efficient GT-racing entry category, classified below the GT3 class, is gaining increasing popularity all over the world. The motor-racing enthusiasts at the Hockenheimring may look forward to quite a number of manufacturers. In addition to the GT4 vehicles of the manufacturers in DTM – BMW M4 GT4, Mercedes-AMG GT4 and Audi R8 GT4 – the grid presumably also will feature spectacular racing cars such as the Aston Martin Vantage, McLaren 570s GT4, Chevrolet Camaro GT4, KTM X-Bow GT4 or Sin R1 GT4.

“DTM attaches major importance to an attractive support programme. GT4 represents top-class close-to-production motor racing and in addition, there are the ambitious up-and-coming FIA F3 European Championship young guns. And don’t forget the ‘Tourenwagen Classics’ that represent an additional highlight as you once again could witness at the Lausitzring. I already look forward to a thrilling, action-packed season finale at Hockenheim,” says Achim Kostron, Managing Director of DTM’s umbrella organisation ITR.

“We at the SRO Motorsports Group are very happy to be able to organize the GT4 Sprint Cup Europe during the DTM Finale at Hockenheim at the end of the season,” says Stéphane Ratel, founder and CEO of the SRO Motorsports Group. “In front of thousands of race fans visiting the popular event our races will certainly show the immense potential of the GT4 category.”

The GT4 Gran Turismo vehicles provide close-to-production motor racing without expensive technology or hidden costs. The basis for the racers are production cars that are built at least 300 times a year. The minimum weight amounts to 1,000kg, widening the body or using aerodynamic components is widely prohibited and diffusers or rear wings are clearly smaller than in the higher categories. And the same applies to the technology under the bonnet. For everything you want to use, but cannot be found in the production car, you need a special permission. Only brake systems and shock-absorber systems may be replaced freely. The Mercedes AMG GT4 is powered by a 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine producing some 510bhp, the BMW M4 GT4 is accelerated by a 430bhp 3.0-litre straight 6-cylinder biturbo and the Audi R8 GT4 relies on a 5.2-litre 495bhp V10.


At Hockenheim, the GT4 racers will contest two 40-minute races on Saturday and Sunday – after free practice sessions and the qualifying on Friday. All GT4 teams can register for this event.
