Detroit Addition, Lime Rock Omission Highlight IMSA 2024 Schedule Reveal
Clashes with the FIA World Endurance Championship and two other major global racing events are surprisingly prevalent on the 2024 schedule. The Detroit contest clashes with the Nürburgring 24 race, while the Watkins Glen round of the championship will be contested on the same weekend as the 24 Hours of Spa. Three additional conflicts with the FIA World Endurance Championship starting with the Long Beach round which will be contested at the same time as the 6 Hours of Imola. On May 12th, 2024, the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca round will conflict with the 6 Hours of Spa. The 6 Hours of Spa will be contested a day earlier than the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca round. The final conflict on the schedule is the LMP2 and GTD Pro and GTD-only event at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, which falls on the same weekend as the 6 Hours of Sao Paulo.
The 2024 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship scheduled was revealed Friday at Road America and featured a number of key changes to the events on the calendar for the next season of racing action.
Detroit will be added to the scheduled after a successful debut for the new-for 2023 track on the Michelin Pilot Challenge Series schedule. The GTP and GTP-Pro classes will take to the street course for a 100-minute race taking place on June 1st. Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which will hold its first IMSA contest in September, will transition to a Michelin Endurance Cup round in 2024 with the world renowned race course holding a 6-hour race on September 22nd, 2024. Lime Rock Park, which has been a mainstay on the schedule since 2015, is noticeably absent from the 2024 series schedule.
