BTCC 2019: Thruxton Qualifying

Qualifying for round 7 of the KwikFit British Touring Car Championship went down to the wire at the Thruxton circuit in Hampshire as Sam Tordoff snatched pole from the hands of Dan Cammish.

Tordoff, who has had his fair share of bad luck so far in the 2019 campaign, was keen to put it to bed and there was no better time to do it with pole position and the lap record in the process. His time of 1:15:5 was enough to secure it.

The session was flowing quite nicely for the drivers until Mark Blundell and Tom Chilton had a coming together with four minutes left on the clock, to bring out the red flag to clear up the mess as Chilton had made contact with the barriers at the final chicane.

When the session got back underway it was essentially a two-lap shootout for pole position. Behind Tordoff and Cammish, it was the BMW pair of Colin Turkington and Andrew Jordan who took the third and fourth spots on the grid respectively, after setting the pace early on and squabbling for pole themselves. Sam Tordoff's team-mate at AMD, Rory Butcher, backed up the pace of the teams Honda Civic machine, by posting the fifth best time of the session.

Behind Butcher came the first of the Power Maxed Racing Vauxhall Astra's of Jason Plato, a driver who has so far show great consistency in finishing inside the top ten. Ashley Sutton and Matt Neal will line up just behind Plato, with his team mate Rob Collard in ninth and Tom Oliphant for Team BMW rounding out the top ten qualifiers.

Once you go past the top ten runners in the field, the rest of the drivers seem to all be where they normally wouldn't be, so we can definitely expect alot of chopping and changing throughout the day's three action packed races.

Thruxton is normally a place that throws up the odd surprise, so we wait in anticipation to see what will happen this weekend.
