Frieser Sweeps Endurance Icons Debut as GT3 Legends Finale Splits Down the Middle at Silverstone

The inaugural BRDC Classic delivered exactly what it promised for endurance and GT3 fans this weekend: a Zytek that nobody could touch, a GT3 Legends title fight blown wide open by a retirement nobody saw coming, and a reminder that pre-event form counts for very little once the lights go out.

Endurance Icons: Frieser Untouchable in the Zytek

If Endurance Icons needed a statement debut, Keith Frieser gave it one. His LMP1-spec Zytek won both races of the weekend, and won them well clear of everyone else. Saturday evening's opener, run in the fading light the preview piece promised, saw Frieser cross the line comfortably clear of Niklas Halusa's Audi R8, with Mike Newton's MG-Lola completing the podium some way further back.

Sunday's second outing was more of the same from the front. Frieser led every lap again, this time from Shaun Lynn's Bentley Speed 8, with Maxwell Lynn's Cadillac Northstar just half a second further back in third. That gave the Lynn family a tight scrap of their own for the minor placings, and shuffled Halusa down the order after his stronger showing on Saturday.

The quirk of the weekend belonged to Saturday's fastest lap, which went not to Frieser but to the Cummings/Ellis Morgan Pescarolo, quicker than the race winner despite finishing well down the order. Sunday flipped that around, with Maxwell Lynn's Cadillac just shading Frieser for outright pace even as the Zytek cruised to the win. For a grid making its competitive debut, that's a decent sign of depth beneath the dominant car at the front.

GT3 Legends: A Finale Nobody Called

This was the third and final round of the 2026 GT3 Legends season, and it did not go the way Saturday's preview suggested. Jonathan Mitchell, in the Aston Martin V12 Vantage, won Race One on Saturday afternoon by a wafer-thin margin from team-mate Graham Davidson, with Danny Winstanley's Audi R8 LMS completing the podium after recovering from that costly Spa penalty. Marcus von Oeynhausen, tipped as the man to watch off the back of his Belgian form, could only manage a distant finish in the BMW Z4.

Sunday told a different story. Mitchell, fastest in the field again and looking every bit the man to beat, was out of the race after just three laps. That handed the initiative straight to Davidson, who converted Saturday's runner-up spot into a Race Two win, with Winstanley again on the podium in second. Tilley and Albrecht rounded out the top three in their Aston Martin V12 Vantage.

Between the two races, Winstanley was the model of consistency, third and then second, exactly the sort of recovery drive he needed after Spa. Von Oeynhausen never found the pace his Belgian result promised, well adrift of the front-runners on both days. And Mitchell's weekend is the one that will sting: fastest car in the field across both days, a win in hand, and nothing to show for Sunday after an early retirement. Full points won't be confirmed until the results move past provisional status, but on pure race-day form it's Davidson who leaves Silverstone with the stronger claim to the season.

The Bigger Picture

Both grids were part of a wider ten-category BRDC Classic programme across the weekend, but for anyone following the sportscar and GT3 side of historic racing, Frieser's Zytek and the GT3 Legends flip from Saturday to Sunday were the two stories worth the trip.

Endurance Icons in particular looks like it has found its feet quickly for a grid that only raced for the first time this weekend.
