Blomqvist take the first GTP pole position at the Rolex 24 for Meyer Shank Racing

The dawn of a new era in prototype racing has begun with the first ever pole position in the new GTP class going to Tom Blomqvist in the #60 Acura ARX-06 with a time of 1:34.031 today at Daytona International Speedway.

In a short session, which was made even shorter when Nick Tandy in the #6 Penske Porsche crashed at the exit of the Le Mans Chicane; 0.8 seconds covered the top 8 GTP cars. With the session truncated it was down to the last 2 minutes following the red flag stoppage for Tandy for the times to be set.



In LMP2, the multifaceted Ben Keating took pole in the #52 PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports ORECA LMP2 07 by over a second from the #35 TDS Racing ORECA.


In LMP3 N. Pino took pole with Sean Creech Motorsport in their Ligier JS P320, in GTD Pro it was M. Engal in the WeatherTech Racing Mercedes-AMG GT3 and rounding out the pole sitters was P. Ellis in another Mercedes-AMG GT3 for pole in GTD for Winward Racing.
