Albuquerque, Acura Grab Overall Pole for Long Beach IMSA Round

Acura qualifies 1, 2 for Saturday's IMSA sprint round at Long Beach!


Felipe Albuquerque drove to the pole for Saturday's Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach with a quick lap of 1:09.909. The Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti Autosport Acura ARX-06 led a one-two for Acura, as the No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura qualified in second with Tom Blomqvist at the wheel with a lap of 1:10.583. Acura followed up their dominant run of the weekend with the top two spots in qualifying after posting the top time in each of the two practice sessions contested on Friday. Rounding out the top three in the GTP class was the No. 01 Chip Ganassi Racing Cadillac V-Series.R of Sebastian Bourdais.


In GTD-Pro, the No. 14 Vasser-Sullivan Lexus RC-F GT3 of Jack Hawksworth stormed to pole position with a record-setting lap of 1:17.817. Close behind Hawksworth was the No. 23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of Ross Gunn, while the No. 9 Pfaff Motorsports Porsche 992 GT3 of Patrick Pilet rounded out the top three.

The GTD pole was claimed by the No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 of Marco Sorenson, who not only secured the GTD pole, but was the fastest GT car during qualifying. Sorenson layed down a master lap of 1:17.811 which was only six one thousands of a second ahead of the GTD-Pro lap set by Jack Hawksworth. Behind Sorenson in second was the No. 12 Vasser-Sullivan Lexus RC-F GT3 of Frankie Montecalvo while the No. 1 Paul Miler Racing BMW M4 GT3 of Madison Snow qualified in third.


GT qualifying was cut short as two cars made contact with the barriers with less than three minutes remaining. The No. 93 RacersEdge Acura NSX GT3 of Ashton Harrison and the No. 80 AO Racing Porsche 992 GT3R both clipped the inside wall at turn 8. Both drivers were unhurt in their incidents.
