2024 Entry list: 19 hypercars, third Ferrari, Vanwall out, Rossi in

The 2024 WEC grid will feature no less than 19 hypercars. Newcomers include two BMW's run by WRT, two Alpine's, a Lamborghini and an Isotta Fraschini. Additionally, AF Corse Ferrari will enter a third 499P, spearheaded by newly signed Robert Kubica, and Hertz Team JOTA will field a second Porsche 963, bringing the total up to five (two Penske's, two JOTA's and a Proton).

Not a lot of drivers have officially been confirmed, except from Penske and Toyota. Matt Campbell replaces Dane Cameron in the #5 Porsche, while Nyck de Vries takes José Maria Lopez' spot in the #7 Toyota.

The final grid consists of 9 different manufacturers: Toyota, Ferrari, Porsche, Alpine, Lamborghini, BMW, Peugeot, Cadillac and Isotta Fraschini. Absent for 2024 is the Vanwall team. The German manufacturer did not get a slot on the crowded 2024 grid, meaning the curtain falls for the Vandervell 680 after just one season. Rumours are that failure to produce a (mandatory) road car within the set amount of time contributed to the team scrapped from the 2024 entry list.

The Vanwall Vandervell 680 will not return on the 2024 grid

The entry list also ends all speculation about which LMGT3's will be on the 2024 grid. The list consists out of 9 manufacturers: Aston Martin with its new Vantage GT 3 (Heart of Racing and D'Station racing), BMW with the M4 GT3(WRT), Lamborghini with the Huracan (Iron Lynx), Ferrari with the 296 (AF Corse), McLaren with the 720S (United Autosports), Chevrolet with the new Corvette (TF Sport), Porsche (Manthey), Ford (Proton), Lexus (Akkodis ASP). This means Audi and Mercedes will definitely not participate in the 2024 WEC campaign.

Eyecatcher in the LMGT3 driver lineups is of course former Moto GP World Champion Valentino Rossi, who will pilot a BMW M4 for WRT. This does mean he will not pilot the BMW Hypercar, something that was also speculated after his participation at last months Rookie Test in Bahrain with WRT's Oreca LMP2. The entry list also confirms José Maria Lopez' switch to the Akkodis ASP Lexus LMGT3 team.
