90 Seconds with Memo Rojas
Memo Rojas is 34 year old professional driver from Mexico City. He started racing in 1993 in karts taking a national championship two years later. Memo became a full time professional and graduated to single seaters the following year. He raced extensively in Mexico, USA and Europe before turning his attention to the endurance part of the sport in 2007.
Memo enjoyed great success in the Grand American Road Racing Rolex Sports Car Series driving for Chip Ganassi Racing. He won the driver’s title no less than four times (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012) and scored three outright victories in the Daytona 24 Hours (2008, 2011, 2012) plus a win in 2014 at the 12 Hours of Sebring.
What would you be if not a racing driver?
An astonaut.
Do you have any pre-race superstitions?
When putting on my racing shoes I always have to put the right one first before the left. The same goes for racing gloves. If for some reason I do the left one first I take them off and redo it.
What is your favourite racing circuit?
Le Mans.
Who do you admire the most?
My father.
Favourite food?
Mexican, of course!
Which other series would you like to race in?
I would’ve liked to have raced in F1, which was my childhood dream, but I enjoy a lot racing sports cars in IMSA and ELMS.
What road car do you drive?
Peugeot 308.
Most memorable racing moment?
Winningthe Daytona 24 hours, three times.
