90 Seconds with Lewis Williamson
Born in Dundee, Williamson began karting at the age of eight, and spent a successful decade racing in the various classes around the United Kingdom. By the time Williamson moved into the junior formulae in 2008, he had claimed three Scottish karting championship titles at Cadet and MiniMax levels, before taking a clean sweep in 2008. The first driver to record such a feat, Williamson won the British Open, British Grand Prix Super Kart, the Scottish Open, as well as the 125 ICC Championship.
Williamson has competed in the Formula Renault UK Championship with Manor in 2010 scoring 5 victories, moving onto GP3 in 2013 with Craft Bamboo scoring the teams first ever series points.
Lewis is currently competing in the Renault Sport Trophy with Strakka racing in the Pro class, currently 2nd in the chamionship which runs alongside the ELMS calendar.
What would you be if not a racing driver?
I am a fabricator welder for an engineering firm and did my apprenticeship from 2007 to 2011. I love working on cars, quads, jeeps, in fact anything like that. I like customising and creating bespoke cars. I’ve just done a couple of Land Rovers.
Do you have any pre-race superstitions?
Not really but I do believe training hard, working hard and being a nice person then good things will come your way.
What is your favourite racing circuit?
I would have to say Silverstone as I won my first GP3 race there.
Who do you admire the most?
I like to see people working their way up. Having nothing, working hard and making their dreams come true in any form of life.
Favourite food?
Has to be chicken - I have it most days!
Which other series would you like to race in?
For me I have to say FIA WEC.
What road car do you drive?
I have an old Land Rover that I use everyday. I have just got an import Mitsubishi Evo VI Tommi Mäkinen to use at the weekends. It’s mint!
Most memorable racing moment?
Nurburgring 2011 GP3 coming from p8 to p2 in lap one and leading the race till the end when it rained. I had a great fight with Haryanto and Bottas and finished p2 with slicks on a wet track.
Do you have any tattoo's, if so what and where (be honest!)?
None! I wouldn’t know what to get so best for me not to bother!
