Acura Tops Charts for Second Consecutive Day at Watkins Glen

Colin Braun sets fastest overall time during second official practice session.

Colin Braun, for the second consecutive day, topped the overall speed charts during the second official IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session at Watkins Glen International. The No. 60 Meyer Shank Racing Acura led the field with a 1:32.331 lap time edging out the No. 25 BMW M Hybrid fielded by BMW Team RLL and driven by Connor De Phillippi by 0.004 seconds.

The lap time set by Braun came during the final lap of the 1 hour and 45 minute early morning session at Watkins Glen International. De Phillippi’s BMW teammate Augusto Farfus rounded out the top three fastest times in the GTP class. The No. 31 Whelen Cadillac V-Series R of Pipo Derani and the No. 6 Penske Porsche 963 of Nick Tandy finished fourth and fifth respectively in Saturday mornings session.

Tower Racing’s No. 8 Oreca 07 Gibson of Kyffin Simpson set the fastest lap in the LMP2 class with a 1:36.458 time. Simpsons time bested the No. 11 entry fielded by TDS Racing and driven by Mikkel Jensen. Wayne Boyd led the LMP3 class field in the No. 17 AWA Duqueine D08 Nissan, while the sister AWA Duqueine was involved in one of the sessions red flags after making contact with the Paul Miller Racing No. 1 BMW M4 GT3 machine.

Leading the GT classes was the No. 12 Vasser Sullivan Lexus RC F GT3 driven by Aaron Telitz in the GTD class edged teammate Jack Hawksworth driving in the GTD-Pro class. Following the 1-2 for Vasser Sullivan was the No. 78 Forte Racing by US RaceTronics Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 of Loris Spinelli in third overall and second in the GTD class.

Qualifying is set for later this Saturday afternoon at 1:20pm EDT.
