The new calendar for season 10 the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2022 has been released today, showing a six race championship, with the 90th running of the Le Mans 24 Hours the highlight once again in mid-season.
The season starts with the prologue and first race being held on the American circuit of Sebring in Florida, where it will share billing with IMSA's Sebring 12 Hours race, run the following day.
From there, the traditional line up is of Spa-Francorchamps being held ahead of Le Mans, and Monza being used as the last of the European leg.
Sadly, the British round at Silverstone does not feature once again, much to the chagrin of the many British supporters of the championship and Le Mans.
The world championship then moves to Asia with the race in Fuji back in the fixtures, before the season is rounded off in the traditional manner of the 8 Hours of Bahrain, and the end of season presentations.
Frédéric Lequien, FIA WEC CEO, said, “Our aim was to create both a global and cost-effective package in what has been a difficult past 18 months for our manufacturers and teams. With the 2022 calendar, we have achieved the perfect blend of classic race tracks and endurance racing heritage. We are confident that the Season 10 schedule will be popular with both competitors and fans alike.”
Equally, Richard Mille, FIA Endurance Commission President, was upbeat with the announcement. “Six-rounds is the perfect solution for the FIA World Endurance Championship. Next year’s calendar is well-balanced, with events evenly spread across the year. It’s cost-effective for the competitors, at the same accommodating iconic circuits and variety of race durations and formats. The return to North America and Far East is also a major step. With further manufacturers coming with Hypercars next year, I’m confident each of the six rounds will deliver a thrilling spectacle.”
